OneyPlays Animated: Dino Island Creature Designs.

Some dinosaur concept art for a planned OneyPlays Animated based on their playthrough of various itch.io dinosaur games. I decided to post these to show that I'm also on the market for creature design and illustrated concept art. These designs will eventually be made into 3D models, either by me or a collaborator, though its likely not all of these will appear in the final films. It's just concept art, after all.

The goal was to capture a style that encompasses both scientific accuracy and vintage themes. Various skeletals were used for reference with some guidance from fellow paleoartists, and the designs of some of the dinosaurs were directly inspired by their sprite depictions in one game the boys played in particular called "Dimetrosaur". The dinosaurs that aren't featured in said game were either designed with input of the Dimetrosaur creator himself, Grade 9 Games, or designed to be homages to popular dinosaur media during the 90s and early 2000's. Texture details such as scales, keratin, hair and feathers were accomplished via photobashing.

OneyPlays is a channel owned by Chris "Oney" O'Neill, and Dimetrosaur belongs to Grade 9 Games.

Tyrannosaurus rex. It's insane how easy it can be to make a modern, scientifically accurate reconstruction look retro just by using the right colors.

Giganotosaurus carolinii. Since Spinosaurus is no longer a really a good rival for Tyrannosaurus anymore, I figured Giganotosaurus would make for a good alternative.

Triceratops prorsus. Why WOULDN'T I include this guy?

Spinosaurus aegyptiacus. In the intro of Dimetrosaur, a very much retro-styled Spinosaurus tears apart a boat. Coincidentally, the new material of Spinosaurus' tail found in 2020 show that it was aquatic, so I had no trouble making the design work.

Carnotaurus sastrei. I nicknamed it the "Horndog" because of its horns and short bulldog-like jaws. I got the idea from watching a mediocre animated Dinosaur movie from Korea, where Carnotaurus are depicted growling and sometimes even barking like dogs.

Dakotaraptor steinei. Though the original sprite is modelled off of Jurassic Park's Velociraptor, I ultimately changed its species to one that closest resembles it. I tried my best to integrate the original color scheme into a feathered design.

Allosaurus fragilis. Initially I was going to make it a Saurophaganax, but I figured that I needed more smaller theropods.

Protoceratops andrewsi. I modeled its color scheme off of the human penis for funsies.

Anzu wyliei. Its integumentary covering is based on Ostriches and Lappet-faced Vultures.

Deinocheirus mirificus. Though I ultimately used modern reconstructions for reference, I felt the need to have the color scheme be a nod to some older reconstructions from the 90's and early 2000's.

Yutyrannus huali. I figured it would show up as a homage/spoof to the old windows game "SkiFree", so I based its colors off of the yeti antagonist.

Dilophosaurus wetherilli. I based it off of modern reconstructions, mostly because I wanted to stray away from the tired "tiny poison spitter" trope. Dilophosaurus was never tiny, it was one of the largest terrestrial carnivores alive at its time.

Megalosaurus bucklandii. Skeletally and proportionately this guy is accurate, but I decidedly twisted its external features to pay homage to a particular beloved sitcom.

Iguanodon bernissartensis. This was a pretty interestring one, since it and Megalosaurus were the first two dinosaurs ever discovered. The blunted dorsal spines are a homage to the Iguanodon design from Disney's Dinosaur.

Edmontosaurus annectens. This one was really fun, though admittedly most of the time was spent figuring out the structure of the front feet. The forelimbs are so bizzare, almost horse-like.

Parasaurolophus walkeri. This is easily one of the most brightly colored dinosaurs, with the sprite showing a mainly teal color from at least the neck up.
