SCP-049 Concept Art (SCP: Project Upsilon)

Concept art of SCP-049 for Anenpa Team's upcoming game, SCP: Project Upsilon. I was given permission by the lead dev to share these concepts

I wanted to take a more bold, somewhat grotesque direction with this design for SCP-049. His distinctive cloak is made out of his own overgrown skin, which he tailored into the likeness of a gown. What appear to be seams in the cloak are actually surgical scars from the "tailoring" process. Not all of his clothes are part of his skin though. His gloves and boots are of ordinary design, and he wears cotton trousers to hide rather unsightly unmentionables. His mask is made of bone covered by a keratin sheathe, and almost completely obscures his facial features except for his eyes. The visible skin around his eyes is dark red and covered in keloid scars caused by some sort of traumatic injury in the past, likely caused by 3rd degree burns. The mask does have a moving jaw joint, but it moves independently from his actual jawbone, and it usually remains closed even while he is talking. When this jaw does open however, rotten, yet recognizably human teeth can be seen.

When in the process of coloring and texturing this design, I had the idea that despite his desire to cure the "pestilence", he would look rather diseased himself, much to the irony of his profession. His obsession with perfecting his cure would cause him to neglect needs such as sleep and personal hygiene. His eyes are bloodshot due to lack of sufficient sleep, and the eye sockets and nostrils of his mask are stained brown by centuries of stale sweat, tears, and mucus. His cloak, since it is fashioned from his own skin, is absolutely filthy, riddled in acne, pustules and patches of ashy, psoriatic skin damage. His stench is so foul that he is followed by a small swarm of flies.
